SEND

OUR VISION

At Priory Primary School the well-being and development of each child underpins all that we do. Our aim is to develop children into confident and resilient learners, for them to develop a love of learning and to encourage them to explore opportunities to step outside of their comfort zone whilst not neglecting the need to develop wider life skills that they can use to underpin their future development.

At some time in their school career a child may need extra support.  This may only be needed for a short time.  The Special Needs Coordinator (SENCo) is responsible for overseeing the work of supporting children with additional needs.  This support is planned using the SEND Code of Practice.  Parents/Carers and children are involved from the beginning of the process and are encouraged to work in partnership with the school.

At Priory Primary School we welcome all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.  We aim to be fully inclusive.  Children with SEND are admitted to the school under the same arrangements as all other children in accordance with our Admissions Policy.

At Priory, we are committed to the provision of the best possible learning experience for every child in our care.  We value the opportunity to work closely with parents and carers and recognise the importance of home and school developing a strong relationship.  At the heart of this relationship, is the common goal of ensuring that the child experiences success and reaches their full potential.

Concerns about SEN provision should be made to the class teacher or SENCO in the first instance.  In most cases, we find that concerns can be dealt with successfully at this level. However if this is not possible, the concern may be escalated and raised as a complaint with headteacher, please see the school complaints procedure in the policies section of the website.

The parents and carers of pupils with disabilities have the right to make disability discrimination claims to the first-tier SEND tribunal, if they believe that our school has discriminated against their child.

They can make a claim about alleged discrimination regarding:

  • Suspensions
  • Provision of education and associated services
  • Making reasonable adjustments, including the provision of auxiliary aids and services

Our School SENCo is Mrs E Wilson and can be contacted via the school office.
