Kusama Class - Year 3
Welcome to Kusama!
Class Teacher - Miss Marshall
Kusama is a team, a community of wonderful, individual, and unique personalities who embrace challenges head-on. We always look for ways to practice and apply our skills and take on feedback daily to improve.
Spring Term
This term, in Kusama, we are consolidating all of our learning from the Autumn Term while developing new skills and exploring new topics.
In English, our writing will be based on lovely, rich and varied texts, such as The Tin Forest by Helen Ward, Cinderella of the Nile by Beverley Najdoo and The Pied Piper of Hamelin by Michael Morpurgo. In reading, children will continue to develop their VIPERS skills around fiction and non-fiction texts, some of which relate directly to our science and history topics, to further their knowledge and by reading around the curriculum. Maths will continue to focus on multiplication and division with our 3-, 4- and 8-times tables becoming a large focus. We will also learn formal methods for multiplying and dividing before moving on to length, perimeter and fractions. In humanities, this term, we are going back in time to the Ancient Egyptian era to learn all their weird and wonderful ways of life. The children will learn about mummification, pharaohs and hieroglyphs, concluding with their own in-class museum exhibition. After this, we shall then be exploring the counties, cities, rivers and seas of the UK using maps. In Science, we will be researching scientists and their significance to modern-day life. We will also be examining the human body, from our nutrition to our skeleton! This all links together in our topics of Egyptian-themed art, bodies and British artists. In PE, the children will be developing their volleyball skills and working on personal fitness. In PSHE, we are looking at how diverse our country is and what makes our society so varied and multicultural.
Please read the details below carefully so that you are aware of our school’s expectations.
Uniforms - At Priory, we pride ourselves on our appearance - being smart starts with looking smart! Children are required to wear full uniforms to school at all times. Please inform me or the school office if, for any reason, it is not possible to do this, and it will be taken into consideration. Please ensure all uniforms are labelled with the child’s name, as alternative uniforms cannot be provided should theirs go missing.
PE – PE kits must be brought to school on Monday so that they are ready for the week ahead. PE lessons will be taught every Monday and Thursday. The kit will be kept at school and sent home at the end of each half-term or at your request (but please ensure that they are returned to school on time for these sessions). On PE days, earrings must be removed prior to the children coming into school. We are not allowed to help them remove earrings, and they will be unable to do PE.
Home Learning - On Friday, I will set a piece of home learning on Google Classroom which should be completed and home learning books returned by Wednesday, please.
If you ever need to chat with me, please call or email the office and I will return your call/email at the earliest possible time.
